Too Faced “Natural Matte” Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced recently launched two new eyeshadow palettes called “Sugar Pop” and “Natural Matte.” At first glance, they did not look like anything special, but once I saw photos of the palettes I knew that I had to get the “Natural Matte” palette. Fun Fact: The Too Faced “Naked eye” palette was my first ever eyeshadow palette. My mom bought it for me when I was a sophomore in high school and I absolutely love that palette, and it is the only one I owned up until now. I was considering buying the “Chocolate Bar” or the “Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar” palettes, but I could not get myself to purchase either one. I personally love the idea of a shimmery or satin eyeshadow, but I have been wearing matte shadows on a daily basis for the past few months, so I could not see myself using most of the shadows in the Chocolate bar palettes. When I saw that Too Faced launched an all matte palette with colors that to me mostly look like different shades of brown I was very excited! I saw a couple of pictures and decided that this palette would be worth the investment given that I could see myself wearing 7 out of the 9 shades on a daily basis. Since this is a fairly new product only available at Ulta and on the Too Faced website (for some sad reason Sephora will not carry this palette) I had to take a leap faith and order the palette without swatching it. My palette arrived around two weeks ago and I have been wearing it every single day! I have not been wearing these eyeshadows long enough to do an in-depth review on them, but I will try my best to provide as much information on this product.

  • Packaging:
    • The palette comes in a light tan colored box with a dark brown lace print and the name on the front.                                               NMatteBox
      • The actual palette is a small, sleek, thin rectangle made out of a tin-like material with a magnetic closing.                              NMatteOpen
    • There is a nicely sized mirror on the inside of the lid and a small booklet with suggested eyeshadow looks.
  • Application/longevity:
    • The shadows are silky, smooth, pigmented and easily blend-able.  I was afraid that the lighter colors would be too chalky or simply would not show up on my skin tone, but all of the shadows are definitely build-able and highly pigmented.

    • The only problem with these shadows is that they can be a little messy. Whenever I swirl a brush in a shade, there is a bit of powder that spreads outside of the pan. I think that this type of result occurs because of how buttery and smooth the shadows are therefore it does not bother me too much.
    • As for the longevity of these shadows, I usually wear an eyeshadow primer underneath and therefore cannot comment on how long they last on their own. I did however wear the eyeshadows on their own one last week as I was running late and I found that it lasted 8 or so hours, but it was a little more difficult to build the color.
  • Color range and texture:
    • I love the colors in this palette! First of all, they are all matte which is awesome! Secondly, a large portion of them is a different shade of brown (who doesn’t love brown eyeshadows?).                                       NMattePans
    • Overall, this palette has some amazing everyday colors. There are both cool tone and warm tone colors to choose from. I love all of the shades and I find that although they are grouped in a certain way, they all go very well together. All of the shades in this palette are wearable on a daily basis, but you can also create dramatic looks using the darker shades.

  • Comparison to the Sonia Kashuk “Eye on Neutral Matte” palette:
    • Both palettes are matte and have everyday/natural shades.
    • In terms of price, the Sonia Kashuk palette costs $19.99 at Target and it comes with 12 eye shadow colors. The Too Faced palette only has 9 colors and it retails for $36.                                                             SoniaKMatte SoniaKMatteBack
    • I do have to say that the “Natural Eyes” palette seems to have a bit more variety and quality in the shadows. The Too Faced shadows are smoother and more pigmented than the Sonia Kashuk shadows.    SK Eye on neutral
    • The color range in the Sonia Kashuk palette may be considered a bit broader because it has a black, bluish grey, a pink and two different yellowish cream shades, but I find that overall the Too Faced palette has a better repertoire of colors. There are a couple of shades in the “Eye on Neutral Matte” palette that show up very similar on my skin whereas every color in the “Natural Matte” palette is different when applied.
    • The “Eye on Neutral Matte” palette is a great alternative to the Too Faced “Natural Matte” because it can probably be found on sale at Target and the quality of the shadows is great for the price.
  • Final thoughts:
    • The overall price for the quality and size of the shadows is, in my opinion, an amazing deal! Each eyeshadow color comes out to $4, which is amazing for the quality.
    • I do like the range and the fact that they are all matte although I wish that the larger pans had other colors, not just the lightest ones, but I can understand that these are intended to be used as transitions or highlights.

Do you own any of these palettes? Thank you for reading and let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!
